I had heard(almost sickeningly too much) praise about Masqerade Redemption but never really got around to buying the title. I love this game and am buying redemption on order as of this writing. Masq Bloodlines lets you pick your clan whereas redemption didn't but it is getting a chance too. I actually like the brujah better than any other clan anyway because he is not only a good fighter but his talants can be put else where at level ups. The bonus to brawl is nice and lets me spend a few on other "talents" like dodge and subterfudge(anyone needs it). Gangrel is also a good choice and is more well rounded than bruja and can "Hulk out" as it were. Allowing a +10 to Strength and others. Don't know if it stacks with animal form though. The option to be evil pays little consequence and can get you on the road to good later(just say, your a misguided fool who learns his lesson thats' all). Suck blood, violate the masq because you get it all back later if you just make the effort. Beasting out is a good thing in the combat zone(and satisfies my hunger to beat sum moron to mush). Mental crazy guy(not the Malkavian) who limbs the bounty guy is a satisfactory beat when you beast out as a Gangrel low on blood and humanity. Priceless! You pick from seven clans(I like them all, not a dud in the bunch like most RPGs). Nosferatu is fun but is hard to scocialise and even if you use the sewer system you get caught quite a lot when you emerge. Cops don't take kindly to you when you view the body on the Pier docks in Santa Moni, only vampires accept you on the beach, no where else are you safe from prying eyes(and cell phone cameras). Dr. David Banner had it easy compared to the acursed cell phone. The RP element is better than any mideval or Space RPG I can think of a few. People praised Redemption and I used to find that nausiating, now I know why they praised it. I do too! No weak, useless stats. Charisma and even appearence have an important place here. the ability to soak bullets gives incentive to raise Stamina, it works wonders later on beleve me! rifflemen are the acursed bane of Vampires. The tutorial dude wasn't kidd'n about that! You have many choices and they take some noggin nashing. Don't buy the hint book, Prima is notorious for being condemning to certain systems of point spending and classes which I find that later these classes work. Icewind Dale's(1+2) stratedgy guide sucked and makes you afraid to play certain characters. I say go right ahead and it is more effective than you think! Gangrels are started out with skills; to up melee I assume as in "warrior skills", but brawl needs attention too for blood feasting. If you put something into a skill or feat not ascociated with your class, this game will forgive you and it is very benefitial. Everyone needs sneak, security and subterfudge to effectively get info and girls to drain. Also computer hacking for info and emails of people that need to be exploited. The graphics are excellent as far a quality more than the technology(though it is advanced 3d) Girls are well drawn and the pretty ones have cute faces and bodies. The only thing is AI is sometimes lame. The guy in the diner(The chef) is deadeyed and staires at the cooking pot while you fire away at the rifflemen. "Gawd I'm bored, I wish I could quit this job and watch the mold grow on my ceiling." some of the humans seem more dead than the vampires(the generic non-vocal ones that is). I still think it's fun and realistic and the way-faced humans just add to the charm and humor. The dialoge is just that snappy and humorous and with personality, not that generic crap where they try to be funny like on TV. Great game. Better than Baldur's Gate, Star Wars Republic Knights, IWD and all the rest. If not for the bugs I would rate it five. If you could faction like Planescape Torment, I would rate it six. I am over 13, that's the news, and I am outta here!4 stars (-) - It is an awsome game. Good story and everything. Its a little buggy but its worth it.5 stars (One of the best games ever!) - This game went far beyond any expectations I had for it. The plots are deep, rich and very twisty. Some of the twists you see coming and some you don't. If you like the vampire setting, this game will rock your world!
If there was a drawback, I'd have to say it was the ending. The ending lacks, no matter which ending you choose. The very ending is always very short, and some of them make no sense and leave a lot of loose ends. For such an awesome game, they really didn't work on the endings enough. However, having said that, all the suspense and rich play leading up to the very end make the game well worth it. I am usually someone who hates games with poor endings, but this one is well worth playing. You'll be able to choose from several different vampire clans, and make choices that will effect whose side you end up on.
The graphics are good, and it's fairly easy to understand how to play. This is one of my favorite games of all time. This is the CD-ROM version. The full version can be purchased by clicking on the "Buy Now" button below for around $39.99 USD. Click to buy with discount via Amazon |
